Buggies Dune Update! Front end picture!

Lights are from AutoZone...They work, but they suck. Hello Everyone, back again for another update. I just got a new picture of the front end uploaded, really shows off the lights on top. Outside of that, you can see the CB Radio ant, the bench seat that’s supposed to seat two, but never really does, and of course the steering wheel. I’ve modified the column a bit to support two switches, one is a interior light switch, the other exterior lights.

Interior lights will be added at a later date, I also plan to add brake lights and running lights to this. Overall, this has been a great learning project with go kart diy so far.

Buggies Dune Engine and Clutch

Crappy welds abound, but it runs :)

Here it is, first picture I have available! This highlights the backend of the Buggies Dune project, which is a perfect example of a Go Kart DIY project.

This picture shows the gas tank (5 gal), oil tank (2 quarts I think), a 440 snow mobile engine, snow mobile primary clutch, and secondary clutch from the original 6.5hp motor that was on here.

I know the welds are not perfect, I learned to weld while mounting the motor. I’ve had more than my fair share of problems with the back of the frame twisting repeatedly, or even the whole clutch being sheared from it’s mount.

The most interesting part is that the motor and clutch combo have enough torque to completely shear the axle sproket right off of the axle! I’ve had to use a stainless steel key I custom made, and then weld the whole sprocket to the axle. So far I have had 0 problems with this, including pulling off a small wheelie! (Hey, it’s nearly 400lb with my fat rear end in it, that’s impressive to me)

And in case you were wondering, yes the Buggies Dune project has an air filter made for a Honda….it’s what fit.

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog, I’ll be documenting the build of my current Go Kart DIY project that I have named “Buggies Dune”. If you have any questions for me, please feel free to drop off a comment :)
